Elizabeth Ofili

Biography and Statement

“My passion stems from my African culture, highly influenced by travel, architecture and the human form.”

Elizabeth Ngozi Ofili (E.N.O) a graduate from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, UAL was born in the United Kingdom with a proudly Nigerian background and currently resides in London.

“I often paint based on pure emotion. Robert Frank, Henry Moore and Jackson Pollock have all played significant roles in the development of my work."

Elizabeth’s love for architecture and black and white photography sets the tone for most of her work which expressly showcases 3-D abstract patterns and textures in acrylic and oil paints.

Elizabeth has exhibited her black and white photographs aimed at highlighting the things we see but don’t observe from her collection- ‘From The Back Seat’, at several exhibitions including Chelsea College of Art & Design Show, London, UK in 2010. In 2016 she displayed her works at the Eko Atlantic Exotic Car Show, Lagos Living and Working Unique exhibitions in Lagos, Nigeria. Quite commendably, Elizabeth was nominated 1 of 12 finalists at the National Art Competition 2017 in Lagos, Nigeria sponsored by Nigerian Breweries.

"Life is that surreal experience we take for granted; we often forget we get just one take.”

Elizabeth is undergoing the exploration of a new collection, an adaption of works ‘From The Back Seat.’ The works will include the black and white photographs with words of affirmation to depict the her deepest thoughts when she is surrounded by what is beauty or disappointment.

"With this collection, I aim to educate and interrogate my audience whilst challenging them to ponder, reflect and act as I weave through the narrative."

With plans of embarking on photo-journalism and documentary projects in near future, she is thoroughly excited to be back in the game after many years of focusing on her corporate communications job.

"My art is the truest expression of myself; I have no other, I need no other."
